  Brief - To research two photographers renowned for their use of Light and Shadow. FAN HO Born in Shanghai in 1931, Fan Ho began photographing at the age of fourteen, and just like Cartier Bresson, he started with a Box Brownie camera. Later on, he mostly used a Rollieflex twin-lens Reflex camera that  he received as a gift from his father. His photos are mostly centred around the genres of street photography and urban life, such as slums, markets, and streets. He and his family emigrated to Hong Kong in 1949 so he had a chance to capture the transformation of the city into a major metropolitan centre during the nineteen fifties and sixties. Construction      Hong Kong  1957 One of Fan Ho's most famous photos, ‘ Approaching Shadow ’ (below) was taken in 1954.   Digital Imaging and Printing Brief - Through exploratory projects, prepare images for display. Use a range of equipment to produce photographic images, processing, using photo-editing software, preparing images to a specific display or print. Send images for digital print and comment on the results. Task 1 - Prepare and print photographic images Use projects relevant to Units 1, 2 and 3 to assess the way you prepare and process digital images for printing. Unit 4 culminates in a photography exhibition for UAL photography students levels 2 and 3 at Richmond Art College, South West London. The two images submitted had to fit the brief 'Intimate Portraits'.  Someone with whom you have an intimate relationship.   Lighting in Photography Brief - To be able to explore principles, knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to use lighting for photography. Explore different lighting sources. Use studio lighting to produce photographic images. Our studio work consisted of exploring the following skills and techniques: We used Soft Boxes to diffuse warm toned light, producing a soft effect.  Photographs were taken from the left and right sides using a soft box.  Hard lighting effects used no modifiers, subjects were photographed against a black paper background. Shots taken at a forty five degree light at a diagonal, also produced a harsh effect. The soft box was moved around the subject to a forty five degree angle and the light was raised, which gave more light to the middle of the shot/subject.
